About the project
My regular client Co-Op Legal Services contacted me requiring a certified translation of an inheritance tax return for probate purposes.
Most of the work that I’ve done for Co-Op Legal Services has been in the area of Wills & Probate, where an individual has either died abroad or had property abroad.
The business of securing probate where there is an international element often calls for certified translations of birth, marriage and death certificates, estate valuations, certificates of succession, inheritance tax returns and similar documents.
In this particular case, I had to accurately translate the various assets and liabilities on the deceased’s estate and produce a certified translation that could then be submitted to the Probate Registry.
For me as a translator, it’s important to understand the system; simply understanding the words is not enough. When dealing with estates, translation accuracy is paramount. We’re dealing with people’s lives at what can be a difficult time.
Outcome
The translation was delivered within a short timescale. Over to the team now at Co-Op Legal Services to ensure that probate is granted smoothly and quickly.
